Panic attacks

Panic attacks are instense fear or anxiety. They tend to not last long but can be very frightening. They can occur out of the blue and are often to do with circumstances or situations that show when the first panic attack happens.

 

Signs of a panic attack

  • A sudden rising feeling of fear or distress

  • Rapid breathing wiht makes you feel like you cant breathe properly.

  • Gasping for air

  • Your chest can feel like its getting tight and you can get pains in your chest.

  • Dizziness or feeling faint or shaky

  • Confusion and panic thoughts

  • Tearful

  • Pins and needles

  • Sweating

  • Feeling very hot or cold

  • Feeling like you are dying and losing control

 

 

Ways of dealing with a panic attack

  • Recognise it- Panic attacks can be very frightening but are not dangerous. When you realise you have a panic attack and it will pass will help you to calm down and relax.

  • Breathe-Breathing exercises can help, all you have to do is breathe in through your nose and out though your mouth.

  • Talk about it-talking about how you feel to friends or a family member can also help.

  • Mind your wellbeing-do things that make you feel better for example relaxing, eat well, get enough sleep, avoid drinking too much alcohol and drugs.
